curriculum covered in schools
5-7 years
Aim:
To create, as an ensemble, an original composition lasting 2-3 minutes, in direct response to a given stimulus.
Curriculum covered:
1.Imitate/recall simple rhythmic and melodic patterns.
2.Provide a simple accompaniment.
3.Show awareness of pitch, dynamics, timbre and duration.
4.Associate music with simple notation.
5.Simple improvisation on voice/instrument.
8-11 years
Aim:
To create, as an ensemble, an original composition 3-5 minutes in duration, using the groups response to a live performance by new noise as the stimulus.
Curriculum covered:
1.Show awareness of mood, style, instrumentation, structure and origin etc.
2.Provide an accompaniment.
3.Ability to use rhythmic/melodic patterns, drones and repeated chord sequences.
4.An understanding of ostinato.
5.Recording of group composition.
12-14 years
Aim:
To create, as an ensemble, an original composition lasting 4-6 minutes, with an emphasis on group improvisation.
Curriculum covered:
1.Show an analytical/descriptive response to live/recorded music.
2.Maintain simple lines whilst taking part in a round or canon.
3.Make use of simple notation.
4.Show an ability to devise original arrangements for known music.
5.Recording of group composition.
GCSE
Aim:
To create, as an ensemble, an original composition, incorporating solo passages, lasting 6-8 minutes, from a notational stimulus.
Curriculum covered:
1.Memorise and reproduce simple melodies, rhythms and chord sequences.
2.Show an ability to perform a solo part making use of pitch, timbre, duration, dynamics etc.
3.Show an ability to realise and develop musical ideas taken from a given notational stimulus.
4.Demonstrate the ability to devise original musical statements using various systems (scalic, harmonic, aleatoric etc.) and forms (dance, song, binary etc.).
5.Recording of group composition.
A-level
